About Us...

Drought School is the only school in the Norway Raymond J7 School District (we are not a part of the Racine Unified School District). We are located on the corners of Highway 45 and 7 Mile Road in Franksville, Wisconsin. Our district is 8 square miles wide.

We instruct Kindergarten through 8th grade, and also offer a 4 Year Old Kindergarten program.

Our school hours are 7:35 A.M. - 2:35 P.M.  Lunch is served at 10:30 a.m. for our lower grade students (K-4th) and again at 11:40 a.m. for the upper grade students (5th-8th).  Hot lunch is offered daily.

Drought School averages around 100 students a year.  Our class sizes in 2009-10 ranged from 8 to 16.  Open School Enrollment students made up about 30% of our enrollment. The majority of our in-district students feed into the Waterford District.

Drought School offers extra-curricular activities such as Girl Scouts, and sports that include softball, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, and track & field.

The History of Drought School

In 1850, Thomas Drought donated land and built a log schoolhouse where his mother, Mrs. Mary Ann Drought, was the first teacher.  In 1847 it was reported that 17 children were listed in the district.

Eventually this building was sold for $1, 015.00.  A new building was built in 1952 west of the previous location.  In 1954 an addition was added to accommodate the increasing enrollment.

Unfortunately the school building was lost in fire on August 23, 1961. Drought students attended school at North Cape while a new building was erected.  Since then, Drought has experienced several additions to the original building, most recently in 1998 when a new wing housing the library, cafeteria, offices, and miscellaneous classrooms was added.
